In ‘The 50 best breakfast places in the UK’
The Jericho Café is something of an Oxford institution, having traded for an extraordinary 32 years. We are proud to remain a café to be discovered, recommended, and returned to.
We are a friendly, informal cafe serving tasty, homemade food all day long. The cafe has something for everyone, whether you’re after a full breakfast, quick lunch, quiet drink with friends or a delicious latte with a huge slice of one of our homemade cakes.
All our food is homecooked using fresh, quality ingredients that are locally sourced. Our dishes are simple, yet delicious; made with skill and love, tried and tested without fuss or fanfare. We have a ‘first come, first served’ service style and don’t offer bookings, but whilst we may look small, we have lots of tables downstairs and a new terrace for alfresco dining from which you can watch the world go by.
OUR SUPPLIERS
All of our meat comes from stalwart family butcher’s, Alden’s based in Oxford and dedicated to supplying the finest quality meat for generations. Our bread is all hand-crafted and freshly baked, daily, by The Natural Bread Co, a local family run artisan business. Our Oxford sourdough is fermented for 72 hours, producing a delicious, tangy bread of uncompromised quality.
Oxfordshire free-range eggs are supplied by Mayfield Eggs, laid by hens that are free to roam and cared for by a passionate farming family – we think you can taste the difference. Those of our delicious home-made cakes not baked on the premises are made by talented local chefs and cake-bakers extraordinaire Heather and Jack at Nood Ltd, who started their own cake-making business during the Covid-19 lockdown. Their cupcakes, blondies and brownies are to die for!
We’re pleased to add Alfonso Gelato to our list of suppliers, providing artisanal gelatos to serve on our desserts menu. Then Thursdays are Pippin Doughnuts day – freshly baked and delivered at 8am every Thursday. Keep an eye on our Instagram for news of this week’s flavours.
Our Coffee
Our beans are single estate, grown organically and processed by Guillermo Corrina in North Peru then freshly roasted for us in small batches by local speciality roasters The Missing Bean, right here in Oxford. The beans are purchased direct from Guillermo Cotrina at prices 40% higher than the market rate for organic certified coffee helping him support his family, his community and reinvest in greener production methods.
A quote from Guillermo himself: “I want to thank all of you who buy our coffee. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. We drink it every day but without the income it generates we would struggle to make a living and protect our forests. Selling direct adds value to our coffee and allows us to improve our production but also secure vital medical support for our family in times of need. A thousand thankyous.”
